Yesterday at the #TechTalkSummits Roundtable event in Tampa, I enjoyed meeting new faces and catching up with former colleagues. @SivaBalu shared an interesting perspective on how his company uses Hackathons to tackle organizational pain points and identify the most relevant business use cases. Unlike traditional approaches involving only developers, these Hackathons engage key value stream owners and other leaders who shape the company’s vision and strategy. I found @JoelSierra ’s presentation about Fortinet’s services to be engaging. Loved the family analogy related to the blue and red team’s very different roles of the attackers versus the defenders within cybersecurity. The presenter shared that Fortinet is making cybersecurity training accessible to anyone interested in transitioning into the field, with resources available at https://lnkd.in/eA4WeFZW." @MattRosonfield provided an overview of OpenText’s services and evolution, starting with their pioneering work digitizing the Oxford English Dictionary, later expanding into document control, data management, and cybersecurity services. Matt emphasized the critical focus areas of threat intelligence, endpoint security, and network detection. As someone involved in business analytics, I see a clear opportunity here to collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams to analyze endpoint and network logs, to help bring better insights into identification of 'true positives,' 'false negatives,' and anomalous threats. True Positives: are real threat attacks that are correctly identified by a security team or system. Being able to detect “true positives” leveraging advanced business analytics is crucial because it can translate into taking timely action to prevent or mitigate potential damage. False Negatives: These can be the most dangerous and occur when a real threat goes undetected, leading to an attack and security breaches. Reducing false negatives is important to help ensure that actual threats are not overlooked. False Positives: these types of threats can cause unnecessary noise leading often scarce and valuable cybersecurity resources to be spent on non-threats that are incorrectly flagged. These can also have a negative effect on an organization, as they lead to unnecessary noise, fatigue, and can cause the real threats to be missed. True Negatives: are when NO threats are identified, indicating that no action is needed by cybersecurity resources. Identifying threats accurately is critical to ensuring the safety of organizations’ most valuable assets and to allow us all to sleep better at night. Thank you @techtalksummits for a great event, presenters, content, food, and networking opportunity!
