After a soft launch last month , I am thrilled to announce the release of Podcasting 101 for Educators, an online, self-paced course on podcasting that I have been developing over at Literary Safari. This course—which was inspired by the podcasting camps we ran in the summer of 2020—has been designed to empower educators to harness the transformative power of podcasting as a dynamic pedagogical tool, as well as provide homeschooling parents, teachers, and librarians with the building blocks of know-how for starting their own podcast.

I feel so fortunate and grateful to the guest speakers and instructors from our podcasting camps including Phoebe Owens Crozier (she/her) Pamela Rogers Benjamin Strouse of Gen Z Media Claudia Haines Chad Chenail Mick Sullivan Polly Hall Darren Short who granted permission to feature their presentations as bonus videos within this course. Thank you for your support and guidance! I have learned so much from each of you.

In celebration of International Podcast Day, today Sept 30, please tag an educator and invite them to use the promocode FIRSTINLINE at checkout for 25% off through Oct 3rd. They can learn more and sign-up at https://lnkd.in/exjsJCcz

Publication News

It was so rewarding to co-author a chapter in this new Routledge book with Amy DeFriese, a theater arts and English language arts teacher in the Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District in California. Amy is an ambassador of FlipGrid, Wakelet, and Google for Educators and used Story Seeds in her classrooms during COVID. We wrote collaborated on writing Chapter 34: "A U.S. Case Study of Creativity in the Classroom through Podcasts from the Producer's and Teacher's Perspectives" in this handbook which showcases how educators and practitioners around the world adapted their routine media pedagogies to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can read the abstract of our chapter here: https://lnkd.in/eqSYcyDW

I'm so very grateful to Katie Paciga, Associate Professor at Columbia College Chicago for the invitation to respond to the call for submissions. To get this chapter written, I had to remaster the art of writing in APA format, creating an abstract, and everything else that goes with writing for an academic publication. A bit of a learning curve but a worthwhile effort so that I could sit down and and carve out the time to lay out the research base and pedagogical thinking behind the creation of the Story Seeds Podcast, as well its practical applications for media literacy and project based learning.

The process of creating the book's last chapter which features reflections and recommendations on post-pandemic education was a fascinating one. All the book's contributors met via Zoom meetings and the creative editors did the Herculean task of bringing it all together in one comprehensive chapter. If you know reviewers or librarians who are interested in reviewing or acquiring this book for their collections, please ping me and I can connect you with the editors. The book has chapters with contributions from Japan, Israel, Russia, India, the US, Turkey, Korea, and many more countries.
