Just a quick update from me - I’m officially back after a few weeks off! 🛬

I had the chance to take a trip back home to the UK, where I could spend some quality time with my loved ones, especially my parents. It was a heartwarming reunion, filled with laughter, stories, and an abundance of cherished moments. 🏡❤️

When I made the decision to move to Australia, I didn't fully anticipate the impact of distance. It made me realize the importance of cherishing every moment while we can, especially with our aging parents.👴👵

It's interesting how life has the ability to surprise us, isn't it? It's a gentle reminder to appreciate the present while planning for the future. It certainly puts a different perspective on things. 🌍

In 2024, we still find ourselves celebrating the rare occasion of women taking leadership roles in tech companies. This scenario is not just unexpected but also deeply worrying. Especially in Australia, the tech industry is far from gender equal.

Recently, I witnessed the new hire of a woman to a leadership position, it was hailed as if it was a novel scientific discovery. This accentuates the glaring disparity between genders in the tech industry. I have personally observed this disparity. Instances are not rare where clients hesitate to introduce women into male-dominated teams. They often question the potential cultural fit of women in such environments.

This happens even when there is a clearly defined DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) strategy. It explicitly indicates our reluctance to challenge the existing norms. Only about 29% of tech jobs in Australia are occupied by women, according to the Bureau of Statistics. This significant underrepresentation demands more than just inclusion. It calls for 'elevation'. Diversity should not just be accepted but should be valued.

This implies appreciating unique perspectives and providing equal growth opportunities. The task often assigned to me is to ensure that an organisation's strategic goals align with their DEI journey. However, it's important to remember that real growth and impactful change require time.

The core concern to address is - How to nurture a work environment that doesn't just 'appear accepting for public image' but genuinely 'appreciates' diversity?
