The web is broken.

Not in its ability to connect us, but in its structure that shackles our data to individual websites.

Have you ever wondered why two companies like Spotify and Ticketmaster don't know anything you do on the other's platform? If you're an avid Spotify listener of a particular band and frequently buy concert tickets through Ticketmaster, both companies capture facets of your digital identity. But privacy regulations prevent them from collaborating to offer you personalized perks like discounted tickets or a curated pre-concert playlist. Instead, you pay full price for tickets, miss out on potential merchandise deals, and get generic playlists instead of a customized pre-concert experience. In essence, you lose both financially and experientially, all because these platforms can't fully grasp the 'you' that exists across multiple services.

Today's walled gardens, nurtured by privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA, prevent inter-platform dialogue. These walls not only hinder user experience but also become a playground for bad actors seeking to exploit and monetize your data without your informed consent.

The result? A Web that doesn't just fail to realize its full potential but also under-serves its primary stakeholders—you and me. Companies are throttled in their quest to offer the most bespoke user experiences, enticing recommendations, and even earned discounts—simply because they lack the holistic understanding of 'you.'

My team and I at Gateway are solving for this. We recognized that to truly fix this fractured landscape, we need to provide a seamless way for companies to input data, for users to grant consent, and for partner businesses to request specific information—all while maintaining data integrity, verifiability, and compliance with regulations.

The output: The first user owned data-network.

Companies can now generate 'Private Data Assets,' unique, portable components of your digital identity that accompany you across the web. When another company wishes to offer you a personalized service or product, they can request these assets directly from you, and you have the power to grant or deny that request. Moreover, every time this data is used, the original issuer receives financial benefits based on how they have priced the data. A partnership that normally would have taken millions of dollars and hundreds of hours is reduced to the speed you can integrate our API.

We have already started working with phenomenal partners like LI.FI to bring data ownership back to the user, but to truly empower the average user, we need applications all over the web to commit to a more open and trustless environment.

If you or your organization care about data portability, user empowerment and creating a more open web, reach out to me. I want to talk to you to make sure we at Gateway are doing all that we can to tailor to your data needs. To building a web that we all deserve.
