With a degree in Psychology and International Marketing from American University and further studies in Product Management at General Assembly, as well as an MBA from London Business School, she has a wealth of academic knowledge to apply to her work. If capitalism is built for one thing, it’s growth.
Rapid, untethered growth is exactly what climate solutions need right now. We have the knowledge to limit the likelihood of the most disastrous climate change scenarios. However, we’re missing implementation at a global scale. Those successful climate solutions need widespread adoption, fast.
With each new climate product that I encounter, my job is to find the right business model to send it spiralling off toward scale. A business model needs to correctly express the value of a solution to a specific customer who will pay for it. There are a number of pro-climate business models that could become standard across technologies and industries:
- Switching from products (purchased) to services (rented)
- Cost savings through optimisation
- Package and sell it as a credit
- Making information more evenly distributed
Having worked and spoken with many inventors of new climate solutions, they often become uncomfortable with attaching their creation to a business. When you’re working for the good of humanity, earning too much cash from your labour can leave a sticky sheen.
My view is more mercenary. Outside of inventing an alternative, capitalism is the current system that we’re in. The system naturally grows solutions that add value to customers. If we want a smart climate solution to hit global scale, fast, the easiest way is to wrap it in a neat business model and plant it inside the capitalist system.
When learning about a new business my attention turns to this outer shell of a business model, so I can reinforce or reinvent it for faster growth.
