Are you a civic engagement organization looking to bolster your inclusion of and outreach to the disability community in 2024, 2025, and beyond? 1 in 4 Americans (and growing!) have a disability, and our access to the ballot box is plagued by systematic barriers, from voter registration, to voter education, to access to polling places and absentee/mail-in ballots.

I've been specializing in disability civic engagement for nearly a decade in nonprofit spaces, and I am available for hire for projects, speaking engagements, and other contract-based opportunities! Learn more about my work: sarahblahovec.com

Today is the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I often hear "the ADA would never be passed today." This is unfortunately true. Instead of seeing bipartisan efforts to expand disability rights, we've seen efforts to roll back the ADA, from attempts to gut the ADA through the court system to legislation like HR 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act, which passed the House of Representatives in 2018 with the support of Republicans and some Democrats.

We need more disabled progressives who are working to expand disability rights as candidates, elected officials, and campaign staff, which is why Neal Carter and I co-founded Disability Victory last year. Although the ADA passed 34 years ago and has been critically important to securing our civil rights, it wasn't a magic wand. Disabled people face ableism and inaccessibility on the campaign trail and in the political arena. We are working to dismantle these barriers to empower more disabled people to lead.

Calling all disabled progressives and allies: visit our newly revamped resources page to access our ever-growing library of accessible trainings and best practices at https://lnkd.in/eCxbqNmG.

Please consider supporting our work! As a small organization that is still working to become sustainable while prioritizing accessibility, every single dollar makes a difference: https://lnkd.in/eqQdEKMy
