Is it possible to run an organisation that moves beyond the negative impacts of ego? It was fascinating to discuss how this might work at dinner yesterday as we joined James Woodcock to discuss his epic book Ego Flip.

So many insights from James and our co-conspirers around the table - here are my top 3:

  1. Ego doesn't work within organisational structures; it shows up in many forms such as hierarchy, power-wielding, lack of transparence, politics and beyond, which we wouldn't accept in our personal relationships. It's weird. And it holds back success.
  2. Organisations should learn to shift from attachment to their structures and ideas, to more brittle, 'fragile' structures that are able to move to where the need lies. (Yikes... we all noticed the challenge and fear that immediately brings up!)
  3. Practical ways to overcome the negative influences of ego within organisations include: Cultivating servant leadership, where we think first of the other, rather than the self; and listening with deep curiosity, especially to those we disagree with.

Thanks so much to Mwamba Kasanda, Sean Norris, Remi Olajoyegbe, Amanda Scott, Fiona Buckley, Sophie Dees, Claire Thomas, Dr Claire E. Clement, Isabelle Sutherland, Monica Gogna, Musidora Jorgensen, Archana Mohan, Lizzie Law & Ravi Sahota - what insights would you like to share?

This is a discussion many of us would love to continue, so please do add your input below.

Running a 'Boosting Visibility and Confidence' Masterclass for Microsoft Women this morning, I was reminded of the ongoing difficulty many of us (myself included) have with asking for what we want/ need. I notice that it's considerably easier when we ask with non-attachment; without the expectation of a specific result.

So... here's me asking for what I need, without attachment. Me and team Ginger absolutely LOVE what we do, which is to create transformational leadership communications experiences that builds the clarity and impact of leaders of all levels. We want to do MORE of this work to brilliant, values-aligned organisations. So if you can help by introducting me to senior leaders and people-people who are values driven, then I can ask them for advice about how best to approach their business with the Ginger magic.

Thanks!

And... what is the think YOU need to ask for? Please share below.
