Congrats to our Environmental Affairs-Sustainability intern Titus Li on wrapping up a great summer at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)! We enjoyed having you as part of our team! Titus focused on improving employee engagement around one of our sustainability "north stars": water & biodiversity. He presented to employees at the July Wisdom Wednesday session and designed and built a pollinator garden outside our building. The garden incorporated native plants, recycled pallets collected by our Zero Waste team, and compost generated from food scraps collected through our composting program.

Also, I wanted to give a shoutout to our friends in ETAM (Grounds + Sign Shop + Systems Performance), Operations (Wildlife), Communications & Marketing, Innovation, and the rest of the Environmental Affairs Department for sharing their knowledge and providing assistance as Titus developed his project.

Our DFW Airport sustainability team had a great time touring the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) last week. We observed how sustainability features, such as BRIT's green roof and pollinator garden, can be successfully integrated into site design to support biodiversity and reduce the urban heat island effect. We also learned about the importance of herbariums in the documentation of plant diversity and tracking changes over time and sat down for a networking coffee with our organizations' interns to talk about careers in the environmental field. Thank you, Tiana Rehman, for hosting us!
