We're proud to share discoveries from our decade-long journey asking two fundamental questions: 1. why is it that the reindeer antler skin regenerates after a traumatic wound whereas its back skin forms scar? and 2. can lessons learned from reindeer serve as a “blueprint” to reinstate skin regeneration in humans?
This work, co-led with Dr. Holly Sparks in Dr. Jeff Biernaskie's lab at the University of Calgary and funded by Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), made the cover story of Cell (in time for Xmas)!

Our collaborative attempt at synthesizing fibroblast fates and functions across different tissues is now published as a Cell Press review!
From hand-drawn portraits in the eighteen hundreds to high-resolution genomic snapshots captured over the last decade, a summary of bespoke fibroblast functions during health and disease. As well, our best ideas on how their potential may be harnessed for mitigating the immense economic and social burden of fibrotic disorders!
