I'm coming up on my one-year anniversary with the National Park Service. I have pretty broad responsibilities, but helping my colleagues better understand the goals and best practices of external communication is the most gratifying part of my job. This recent message is the kind of feedback I love to get ...

"Scott, I now finally understand what a communications plan is after having read through the draft you wrote. Wow. I love the clear play-by-play and the specific messages."

It was a whirlwind first week with the National Park Service. Thanks to my boss Amanda Kaplan and teammate Ana Beatriz Cholo for flying in from Seattle and LA, respectively, to spend several days of in-person onboarding, team building, and program planning. It really helps me feel like I can face Week 2 and beyond with confidence! Thanks also to the staffs at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and several City of Vancouver, Washington waterfront restaurants for putting up with us! 😁
