Saving screens and euros: How Saxony's initiative turns phone repairs into savings!
Last week, I had an unexpected experience that underscored the positive impact of the EU's Right to Repair initiative.
My son accidentally dropped and broke his phone 📱 screen, and we went to get it repaired.
As we walked into the repair shop, I couldn't resist a light-hearted joke: "Remember when I said to put a cover on that thing? Well, better late than never, right?" My son just gave me a sheepish grin.
But then, something surprising happened. 😉 The store owner informed us that since we were opting to repair the phone rather than replace it, we could get half the repair cost financed by my state government in Saxony.
According to their website, the program "serves sustainability and resource conservation by creating incentives for extending the lifespan of devices."
Turning to my son, I said, "Looks like your phone screen isn't the only thing getting a break today."
This news was a breath of fresh air. Not only did it mean I would save money on the repair, but it also highlighted how the Right to Repair initiative, which has been a hot topic recently, is being actively supported by institutions.
This initiative is more than just legislation; it's a shift towards sustainability and consumer empowerment.
Our experience was a good example of how policies can make a real, positive difference in people's lives.
If you haven't yet, consider choosing repair over replacement. It's a choice that's good for your wallet and great for the planet. 🌍💡

Is your business preparing for the $1.5 trillion subscription economy, or are you staying put? Spoiler: "Staying put" is the wrong answer ❌.
While the concept of subscription-based services is far from new, surprisingly, many still associate #subscriptions solely with digital services (e.g. Netflix) when thinking about subscription-based business models.
Yet right under their noses are thousands of companies like Apple, Dyson, Volkswagen, Patagonia, HP, and more, already thriving with subscription-based models. These innovators have made significant strides in their business models.
➡️ Take Apple and Patagonia, for instance. They've implemented take-back programs that enable them to incorporate #recycled components into new products.
➡️ And Dyson? They're successfully selling #refurbished products directly on second-hand marketplaces like eBay.
These companies have recognised that consumer preferences and the market are evolving rapidly, urging them to think and evolve at a fast pace.
