Scott Hofer

Scott M. Hofer, the Director of the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health at the University of Victoria, is a distinguished Professor of Psychology and holds the prestigious Harald Mohr, M.D. and Wilhelma Mohr, M.D. Research Chair in Adult Development and Aging.

With a rich history of leadership roles, Dr. Hofer has served as the Past President of Division 5 (Quantitative and Qualitative Methods) of the American Psychological Association and the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology. He is also a Fellow of multiple esteemed organizations, including the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, Gerontological Society of America, and the Royal Statistical Society.

In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, Dr. Hofer was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Gothenburg in 2016. His research primarily focuses on individual differences in developmental and aging-related processes, utilizing both existing longitudinal studies and new data collection methods to advance the understanding of change over time.

As the Program Director of the NIH-funded Integrative Analysis of Longitudinal Studies on Aging and Dementia (IALSA) research network, Dr. Hofer oversees a collaborative effort involving over 100 longitudinal studies to facilitate international comparative research. Through innovative approaches like intensive measurement designs, he explores the day-to-day dynamics among health behaviors, cognition, and well-being for enhanced functional assessments.

Moreover, Dr. Hofer and his team are pioneering the use of web-based technologies to enable remote assessment of neurocognitive and patient-reported outcomes, aiming to support more timely and accurate decisions related to changes in health, cognition, and quality of life.
