After 10 action-packed years as a fund manager and general partner with the Oregon Venture Fund (“OAF” to all who know us), I’m stepping away from full-time work to focus on personal projects. Some have used the word “retirement” to describe this move. But while that doesn’t feel right, it is true that starting Jan 1 2022. I will be pretty much unemployed. I'll still have a very minor, very part-time role with the firm doing some back-office work.

What's next? Well, I'll go back to being an investor in OVF as I was in 2010 and ‘11, participating in various diligence efforts and on the Investment Committee. But my focus at first will long-deferred maintenance and renovation projects on our various properties including active management of the forest around our home (which can be much more productive - and more fire-resistant).

With fewer meetings there will be more time for recreation - I expect to ski mainly Mon-Fri and play more mid-week golf (we’re members at Arrowhead). Let me know if you’d like to get together for a round or on the slopes! Jennie and I also plan to travel more and play in more couples' golf tournaments.

It’s been a great ride for me with OVF as we’ve grown the fund about 4x during my time on the staff, and we’ve just had a record year with more money invested, more up rounds in the portfolio, and more exits than ever. I’m excited to remain part of it. And I’m very happy that it afforded me the opportunity to meet many of you! I look forward to our further encounters in 2022 and beyond.

Just finished a great new book by a great new friend. April Rinne has created a super valuable guide for developing a new mindset to help us deal with the accelerating change we're all experiencing.

I'm a know-it-all, and I want to KNOW what's around the next bend, where I'll eat, what beers are on tap - etc. You get the picture. And I'm sure you have some of this too. We want to control the future. But it's a futile quest. What we really need to do is prepare for a future of certain uncertainty.

April's book FLUX helps change your relationship to change for the better, forever. It’s available in hard copy, audiobook, and ebook formats today! https://lnkd.in/gR7Z6K4T  #MindTheFlux #FluxMindset #navigatingchange #changemindset #uncertainty #newnormal #changemanagement
