Highlights
First obligatory carpet pic in the new PDX terminal before taking a red eye to the AVI-SPL Tampa HQ. And seeing the Planar Video Walls at night is worth the sleep deprivation.
It is so surreal to see that a space I got to know in Revit 2 years ago is now alive and full of energy. And I am so floored seeing how Dot Dot Dash and Half Sister Studio made all of these pixels come to life!
Beyond the massive 123’ wide video walls, the Planar DVLed at the ticketing counter islands and the FIDs look magnificent as well! Just an all around incredible achievement by ZGF Architects , PAE Hoffman Construction Company , Arup , Skanska , LUMA Lighting Design , Cochran, Inc and so many others. I can’t believe I am looking forward to the TSA security queue!
One of my favorite projects of my entire career, the PDX Airport New Terminal, is now live!!!!
Before joining AVI-SPL, I was honored to have worked with the talented Technology Team at PAE, ZGF Architects, Planar, and our amazing client, Port of Portland to create two architecturally integrated digital art canvases to showcase local artists and to create an immersive calming experience before the TSA security queues.
As you walk up on the walls from the side, you see slight movement from what appears to be a continuation of the timber canopy. Moving closer to the departure gates, your jaw drops as you discover the 123'x23' DVLed video wall overhead. When you walk up to the top of the mezzanine, you can see both video walls, one a synchronized mirrored image of the other on either side of the expansive space.
The content of the walls, developed by the incredible teams at dotdotdash and Half Sister Studio, are a combination of high resolution video and generative content that changes based on time of day, weather conditions and crowd size. The expectation is that these two walls become beacons for artists to develop content for these unique digital canvases for many years to come. Special thanks to Skanska, Arup, Hoffman Construction Company, Cochran, Inc, LUMA Lighting Design and all of the other amazingly talented partners who helped make this a reality! #PAE #PDXNext #ExperientialDesign #AVTweeps #flypdx
