Scott Sulway

Senior Lecturer at UNSW Sydney

Dr. Scott Sulway is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. He specializes in chemistry research, particularly in the field of single molecule magnets.4 Dr. Sulway received his Master of Chemistry with Honours from the University of Manchester in 2008 and completed his Doctor of Philosophy at the same institution.3

His research focuses on developing new approaches to increase the operating temperature of single molecule magnets.4 Recently, Dr. Sulway and his team have made significant progress in this area, approaching the 1000 K energy barrier in high coordinate lanthanide single-ion magnets.1 This work has resulted in the highest reported effective energy barrier for a high coordinate lanthanide single-ion magnet, at 951(8) K.1

Dr. Sulway has also contributed to the development of new characterization techniques in chemistry. He has demonstrated the use of 11B-NMR spectroscopy as a method for tracking the synthesis of scorpionate ligands in situ and determining their purity upon isolation.2

As of February 2025, Dr. Sulway continues to be active in research and academic circles, with recent publications and presentations in his field of expertise.5
