This week marks the 9th anniversary of the first coffee I ever had with Derk Arts, MD PhD and Rob de Vries, to discuss the possibility to collaborate on a software project called Castor, helping medical researchers with their data collection.

Fast-forward 9 years, and today we're announcing our Series B investment of 45M USD 🚀 It makes extremely proud and humbled by this massive milestone.

We've already far bypassed our wildest dreams of those early days, but still have the feeling that we're only just scratching the surface of our potential.

I'm looking forward to the crazy madness that will undoubtedly unfold in the months and years to come, knowing that our impact on patient lives, healthcare and science will only continue to grow exponentially! Onward and upward Rob Konterman & Derk Arts, MD PhD!

A big thanks to Eight Roads, F-Prime Capital, Two Sigma Ventures and INKEF Capital for your trust and support!

"Remember that careless confidence you had as a kid when starting something new, like a treehouse? That would be a powerful thing to recapture."

Y Combinator's Paul Graham wonderfully puts to words why having "A project of one's own" can be amazing, how it inspires creativity, engagement, frustration, and ultimately how your own projects can ultimately spiral into (successful) start-ups. Recognized a lot of myself in there, and noticed that I've been gauging this enthusiasm unconsciously during engineering recruitment. Worth a read!
