😲 How do you deal with many options to choose from? 💨 What gives you more clarity? 💢 How can you navigate despite uncertainty? 💎Welcome to the 24h Life Design boot camp which is part of a new type of Gap Year aka Growth Year aka Orientation Year...
The innovative minds of KREATIVES UNTERNEHMERTUM (KU) brought together a group of young adults together with the www.LifeDesignLab.ch associated with the University of St.Gallen at the wonderful location NEUE HÖFE to work on these and other questions in a 24-hour life design boot camp.
It was fascinating to discuss the challenges of young adults who just finished school, returned from a year-off, just started studying or just finished their first studies... here are some (of the many) topics we worked on:
1 There are SO SO SO many options to choose from, just looking at what you could study and where, plus internships, sabbatical options, etc.
2 Being exposed to Instagram and seeing so many different lives and life styles doesn't make it easier, and those 1-minute fast-forward reels make you think you should travel the world, bike through Africa, live a van-life, renovate a house, live on a farm, which is overwhelming...
3 Being exposed to LinkedIn seeing everyone (seemingly) successful, having achievements, celebrating milestones, can make you feel small and insignificant and feels like wasting your time with whatever you do...
4 Digital nomad lifestyle seems to be particularly popular and so tempting to ask yourself "why stay in my home town, country or even continent" and do the same job somewhere else with a sunny beach lifestyle, etc.
5 Deciding for something, whatever it is, feels like missing out on so many other cool things one could have done and it feels like being locked into one option, for months or years, without being able to do other things...
Here is an example of participant Angelika Graf who had already some study and work experience and came up with these points:
The one question that decides everything: I've been pretty lost lately. I keep getting this question: What's next?
♦ Full focus on photography? After all, I'll soon be finishing my training ♦ Corporate influencing? Such a big future market with a lot of impact potential ♦ LinkedIn account takeover and ghostwriting? I get asked about it regularly ♦ AI photography? I find the development so exciting ♦ And on some days: Just go back to a job? Because being self-employed can honestly be really stressful.
👉 What do I REALLY, REALLY want?
And, by the way, some of these points, are also relevant among my students, my MBA folks on "Design Your Future" and also my best agers at NEXT Summit by University of St.Gallen and Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI). It is less a question of age but rather stage in life. And it seems like orientation, clarity, navigating and especially being proactive about one's life seems is a timeless skill well needed in this world.
