Today is my last day at Assembly Global and I've been doing some reflecting on the last 4 years. I've been so lucky to manage a growing and dynamic team, establish a practice that I'm proud of, join countless new business pitches and work on some exciting brands that are solving interesting business challenges. Some thoughts as I close out this chapter:

  1. Listening is the ultimate multiplier: Clients, colleagues, partners, everyone wants to be heard and have their perspective valued and incorporated. While it's tempting to jump into presenter mode, listening offers cues about what matters most and builds trust.
  2. Diversity and Inclusion is a contact sport that everyone needs to play for change and representation to happen in the ad industry. Advertising and specifically digital advertising impacts lots of people, "it keeps the internet free" and as a result, it becomes a part of culture. However, we have a ways to go before people that work in the industry mirror the consumers we aim to reach everyday. While panels and discussions are absolutely necessary in creating awareness, these are proxies for representation and inclusion, not actual change. With that said, I've been excited to be briefed by brands that are proactively asking for representation across their agency teams. This is a great change agent where there's been limited progress.
  3. Gatekeeping knowledge is a guaranteed way to limiting growth. Most would agree that the ad tech landscape is entirely too complex and rapidly evolving for practitioners to have definitive knowledge of everything that's happening at all times. These are also the attributes that make the adtech community so close knit and collaborative. There are countless partners and colleagues who have taught me so much. I pay that forward by sharing knowledge and expertise as much as I can and this has honestly this has given the work of managing media investments a lot of purpose and made it so meaningful.

Thank you to my family, friends, and my smart, dynamic and hard-working team and partners for making the last 4 years the adventure that it’s been. Grateful for all the incredible people I’ve crossed paths with and had the opportunity to work alongside.

Excited for what’s to come but sending warm 'thank-yous' in the meantime ✨

Automation has tranformed the relationship between the buy side and sell side as programmatic evolves. Next Wednesday, I’m looking forward to joining this Smart AdServer panel and these great panelists to discuss all the ways programmatic buyers and sellers can extract value and build relationships in this reality. If you know Andrew C., you know this will be an insightful and fun discussion!
