Thoughts on the Covid-19 crisis: · All will get infected. Sooner or later. Social distancing just delays it and lowers the pressure on the system. · “Positive asymptomatic” is the best case now. “Cured” is not necessarily ideal as in some the virus can apparently reactivate. Take care not to spread, especially to the most vulnerable. · Many are positive asymptomatics. 1.5M infected sounds bad, but we tested only 20M out of 8B. · We need reliable cheap dx tests asap. For hospitals and home. Test anyone, anytime and anywhere for a few $. Both for virus (saliva) and antibodies (drop of blood). · Still many unknowns. How does it spread? Does it mutate? Likely for a single-stranded RNA. Will a vaccine be effective? Can we build immunity and for how long? · Crisis won’t have a clean end. Will continue until we have cures and vaccines. · Economy shutdown can only last that long. Some sectors may have already changed for decades to come. We need plans for when things reopen. · We should allow the negatives and the cured to return to work. Keep the sick, those who spread, and the vulnerables isolated. · Our new “normal” will mean more WFH. More isolation. Less physical contact. · We should learn from this and do better next time. Because there will be a next time.
