Seems like the natural evolution of the intelligence we train for our agents will be towards closed, local models.
Just like our human identities compound in our own closed, local bodies.
The past year has seen the shift from web/cloud (https://t.co/6uv3rSe1VX and chatgpt) to terminal/local (claude code and openclaw).
It seems like the next shift will be from our “local” agents needing claude/openai access to having these agents train their own models that can run locally, independently.
(Note the steep rise in interest in qwen and gemma models)
This could represent a new kind of scarcity- in this age of ai abundance- where you will control who has access to your agent and on what terms.
Imagine if the dependency/addiction many of us feel for the same claude code credits, starts to bifurcate into demand for credits to engage with deeply specialized, uniquely interesting, cultural agents.
I think this would be a healthy development amidst the sycophancy and psychosis dynamics at play with the current generation of generic, mega agents that attempt to be all things to all people.
Ok made discord server for Old New Coders: us in our 40’s and beyond who gave up hope that we would ever learn how to write software, and then voila Claude Code turned our dormant Mac Terminal into a gateway drug to AGI. Go figure.
