At the beginning of 2020, I had no idea what I wanted to pursue for my subsequent internships and was pulled to various hackathons by my roommate (thank you Ayla Orucevic)!
From competing at McHacks, UOttaHacks, PennApps and 10 more hackathons/design jams in one year - I found my way to design at the beginning of this year and ended up landing my first design internship at the Ontario Digital Service just a couple months later!
Through volunteering my time at UW Blueprint designing for non-profits, at Global Spark designing for social tech, at Tech+ UW designing to promote diversity/inclusion in Waterloo’s tech community - All while completing my internship, it’s fair to say that I did a bit of deep dive into design in 2020! 😊

This past weekend, I attended a virtual hackathon, Hack the 6ix! My team and I created “aibo” (or ‘buddy’ in Japanese) which is a web application in React that aims to combat social isolation in the workplace by using a machine learning algorithm to pair employees with a work ‘buddy’, video chats using Twilio/Autocode, and a Slack bot to notify each of the buddies when the other joins the room!
As the designer on the team, I took the lead in designing the web application using Figma to both illustrate and prototype the entire application - focusing on the user flow and giving the user full independence to navigate through the app’s many features.
I’m happy to announce that we won RBC’s challenge for the Most Innovative Hack out of 57 teams for our remote work solution - thank you to the team at RBC for your support over the weekend :)
