Without a doubt, the latter half of 2023 was a challenging time for me personally. I’ve had to navigate acute personal health issues in the past but this time it visited someone close to me - and it’s no less difficult to work through while navigating life, career, relationships, and everything else in between. I have a deep sense of respect for individuals that make sacrifices to put their family before everything else. After all, that is exactly what my mom did for my brother and I just so we would have access to opportunities that would otherwise be closed to us. That’s why I take my shot every time - in case you were wondering.
It’s not surprising in retrospect then that as the new year rang in, I was waking up in the doldrums without the fire in my belly I have become accustomed to. A few months passed, and while my yoga practice has nurtured a deeper sense of peaceful grounding, that fire is also ablaze again. Yin and Yang ☯️
I found myself recently reflecting on how and why that came to be. I guess it boils down to cultivating a healthy amount of fun, challenge, and curiosity.
When I look at Q2+ , this is what I see:
- I am taking my mom on a 10 day trip through Europe. All expenses paid. Feels great to be in a place to finally do things like this for my mom.
- I am spending my third anniversary with my lady in New Mexico to see one of our favorite bands in concert with close friends.
- I feel the improvement from the time I put in the gym training boxing and am transitioning into mixed martial arts at my coach’s suggestion.
- My relationship with my parents, my brother, my friends, my partner are the best they have ever been.
- I have the opportunity to do transformational things in my work and for my organization + I have a leader who believes in me and empowers me to reach my potential.
- I am climbing Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the upper 48, in August with my cousins. And I am going to enjoy training like crazy for it.
- I create the time to read all types of genres. Every single night.
- I am in a wonderful position to empower and strengthen other people, leaders, teammates, founders, friends.
This is to say I feel deep gratitude for some pretty simple things that no amount of money can buy. And as I’ve matured and my priorities have changed, I have also come to realize that the things we feel and experience, whether we deem good or bad, are temporary - but there is always a path through to the things that sustain you and give you enduring purpose and peace. I think that’s where the fire is kindled.
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Senior Director, Enterprise Business Development & EV Strategy at A3Ventures / AAA NCNU.
