Shamit Kachru is a prominent theoretical physicist who served as the Stanford Physics Department Chair from 2018 to 2021.13 He is currently a Professor Emeritus of Physics and Director Emeritus of the Stanford Institute for Theoretical Physics at Stanford University.23

Born in 1970, Kachru has had a distinguished career in theoretical physics, with significant contributions to string theory, quantum field theory, and their applications in cosmology and condensed matter physics.1 He received his A.B. from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from Princeton University under the supervision of Edward Witten.1

Kachru's research has been widely recognized, earning him numerous awards including a Simons Investigator Award, a Packard Fellowship, and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2022.12

As of September 2023, Kachru has transitioned from academia to the private sector. He is now working with PDT Partners, a quantitative hedge fund, where he focuses on understanding the dynamics of liquid global financial markets.23
