Shankar Pasupathy is a seasoned professional with a strong background in product management and engineering, currently leading product management and engineering for Twilio's Data Backbone. With a focus on data engineering and DataOps, Shankar is involved in hiring top talent and developing high-performing teams.

With extensive technical expertise, Shankar has worked on building disruptive AI/ML solutions and leveraging the cloud to scale rapidly while ensuring cost optimization. He excels in solving complex challenges related to ML model deployments, data integrity, governance, and quality at scale.

In his current projects, Shankar is spearheading the development of an innovative serverless data engineering platform that processes over 10 trillion data points monthly. This platform, running on Kubernetes on-premises and in AWS, has significantly improved productivity, reduced operating costs, and storage usage.

One of Shankar's accomplishments includes establishing a machine learning team that enhances customer quality, predicts churn, and reduces time to problem resolution from hours to seconds using tools like SciKit-Learn and TensorFlow. He is also collaborating on a GPU-powered feature store for ML and working with startups to accelerate and simplify ETL processes.

Passionate about creating a culture of openness and continuous learning, Shankar manages an SRE team focused on zero-touch automation and data integrity. He enjoys interacting with customers and sales teams and frequently delivers talks on data engineering and data science. Shankar has also trained field engineers globally on Big Data and AI to drive sales.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Shankar collaborates with universities, faculty, students, and startups, actively participating in top conferences and co-authoring numerous patents and research papers.

Shankar further holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and serves as the VP of Data Platform at Twilio.
