As the release of Julian Assange becomes more imminent and his return to Australia approaches, it's a poignant time to reflect on broader issues that his case brings to light. No matter one's personal opinion on Assange's case, his situation underscores the critical roles that a free press and whistleblowers play in supporting democracy and our society. A free press ensures that power remains checked and the public stays informed, vital for a functioning democracy. Often referred to as the fourth pillar, the media is crucial for maintaining an informed public and a transparent government. Whistleblowers, who courageously speak truth to power, are essential in uncovering truths that can lead to significant societal reforms. Their ability to share crucial information without fear of reprisal safeguards our democracy, ensuring the population remains informed about critical issues. The accuracy and integrity of information are paramount in an era where misinformation can rapidly proliferate through today's vast offering of social channels. Qualified, vetted journalists and editors are indispensable, as they ensure information is responsibly disseminated, balancing public interest with national security concerns. Additionally, large technology companies broadcasting this must not forget that they also have a significant role in supporting democracy by supporting news. By fostering credible news and combating misinformation, these platforms enhance public discourse and contribute to a robust democratic process. Their ongoing commitment to supporting a healthy and growing media industry is essential for ensuring that the public is well-informed and can participate meaningfully in democracy. I wonder how many of these large tech companies have supporting democracy through news as a key corporate value beyond the bottom line? As we continue to navigate these complex challenges, we must all champion a robust, healthy, and growing media industry. A strong, free press is essential for a healthy democracy, ensuring an informed society and accountable governance. #JournalismMatters #PressFreedom #EthicalJournalism #FourthPillarOfDemocracy #TechForGood #FreePress #DigitalDemocracy #MediaEthics
Attended News Corp Australia D_CODED event today. Thank you so much for having me and congratulations to all the speakers. The opportunity of Data Collaboration was a key theme. As the industry grapples with signal loss and privacy reform legislation that is due to land in August this year.
News is tackling this via their data identity partnerships. Enabling authentication without the need of a third party cookie, and therefore the ability to measure and attribute the performance by increasing signal gain. More interesting providing the ability to match Brand and Publisher data sources together, creating bespoke data solutions which are privacy compliant for their clients across News network.
Great to see News lean in and put their money where their data is, and offer to all clients of 50% off contract rates in trying the new audience match product. Given the scale of 17.2m Aussies marketers should take note!
