Dr. Sharissa Louise Latham is a Group Leader in Oncogenic Signalling at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.12 She completed her PhD at the University of Sydney in 2015, followed by a postdoctoral position at Hannover Medical School in Germany.1 In 2018, Dr. Latham joined the Garvan Institute, where she initially worked as a postdoctoral researcher with A/Prof David Croucher before establishing her own research group in 2023.1

Dr. Latham's research focuses on:

  1. Targeting cellular signaling in metastatic disease, particularly pathways driving tumor cell growth after spreading.2
  2. Developing experimental models to study metastatic disease progression in aggressive triple-negative breast cancers (TNBC).2
  3. Conducting drug discovery programs to identify novel therapeutic vulnerabilities for metastatic TNBC, appendiceal cancers, and ovarian cancers.12

Her work has expanded to include studies on high-grade serous ovarian carcinomas and rare appendiceal cancers, collaborating with A/Prof Kate Mahon from Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.2 Dr. Latham has received funding from Cancer Council NSW for her research on aggressive cancers with limited available therapies.1
