So it ends, not with a bang but a whimper. Alas, Stackpath is no more. My 2+ years spent here did not turn out as I had hoped. However, it was mostly a positive experience. I was lucky to run a great team of network engineers that just got sh*t done and were great people. I'm so happy that we were able to get together face-to-face in Utrecht in 2022. I got to work alongside some truly brilliant engineers across the company. It is a shame that Stackpath has failed. Primarily, it's a shame due to the human toll taken upon those the company tossed aside along the way. Most of them were shown the door immediately with nothing for their service. It is also a shame because there was a brilliant group of people that had built the nucleus of an interesting platform. Unfortunately, it didn't succeed and that is not the fault of the engineering teams. Now it's on to better and brighter things. For the first time in 30 years I am without a job. I've been very lucky to have such a long streak. I am obviously seeking a new role. The last few months at Stackpath I had to get back on the keyboard and do "real" work and I loved it. Working here also confirmed that networking is in my blood and it's where I want to be. I've spent 14 years in the organizational leadership game and think I was pretty damn good at it. But now I'm looking to pivot. I'm interested in pursuing an IC or front-line player-manager roles in network architecture, automation, or product roles. If you have or know of something interesting, please send it my way. To those in Stackpath (and really anyone who knows me) please reach out if I can be of assistance in any way with your job hunt.
Are you looking for an entry-level network engineer? I'm helping someone out who studied network engineering at university, but took a diversion into HR. They're now looking to enter the world of network engineering professionally. I would appreciate it if you can share this for visibility.
