Reading has always been a struggle for me. As a kid, I never enjoyed it.   Over the last several years I have grown to enjoy reading. At first, I tried reading at night before going to bed. It made me sleepy, and I would be lucky to read 2 pages before I fell asleep.  I found a system! I read when I wake up in the morning. I grab my coffee and head to the couch. I found it is a great way to wake up; the house is quiet, and I can concentrate on what I am reading. I read for 30-40 minutes, nothing crazy. By the time I finish my coffee, my reading is done, I start my day.  Here is a list of some books I read this year that I really enjoyed:  The Gate Keepers  I like politics, this book profiles all the White House Chief’s of Staff from Nixon to Trump. It doesn’t get political but takes you behind the scenes on how they ran the White House staff (organization), built relationships, influenced decision making by the President and others. I thought it was fascinating.  Presidents are people too and some were better than others at building and leading an organization.  Interesting: Reagan rarely made a decision without consulting the First Lady. His Chief of Staff said, “don’t let anyone ever say there was never a woman President.”  Trivia: Who was considered the smartest President of that group?  Crushing It  Read this recently and loved his ideas for my business. Reading about other people starting a business, wins and fails, and the ideas they generated. A lot of the book talks about subjects I am not good at, so it was great to learn. If you have an idea, company or a side hustle, it is worth your time to read this book.  Trillion Dollar Coach  Bill Campbell’s picture is hanging in the Intuit cafeteria, I walked by it almost daily while working there. It was great to read his book and learn his ideas and methodology on leadership and corporate development.  As a Bay Area native, it was cool to get insight on behind-the-scenes relationships and happenings with CEO’s here in the valley.   Lives of Brian  I am a HUGE AC/DC fan!  I have seen them multiple times in concert, own most of their albums. This book talks about Brian’s (Lead Singer) life growing up, until they finished recording the Back in Black album. He didn’t join AC/DC until he was in his 30’s... he had an interesting life prior to joining the band.  Interesting Note: Prior to AC/DC, Brian joined the British National Guard Paratroopers to earn extra money.  He does a good job of explaining his emotions as he was jumping out of airplanes.  Trivia: Who recommended Brian to the other members of AC/DC?  Spy Secrets  I am a fan of spy stuff in general. I thought this was a fun read that takes you into a spy mindset in everyday life.  “Mine your X.”, Tactical Pen...how you can use spy secrets in your everyday life. He discusses how to handle situations or people that we all find ourselves in or interacting with.  Trivia: Why does the author never stay higher than the 6th floor of any hotel?
