It’s a full-circle moment at The SoLa Foundation!

We were thrilled to welcome six incredible social impact interns to our team this summer, including three interns who were previously SoLa Scholarship recipients. It is always so rewarding to see our alumni come back and interact with us at the Foundation, and seeing our scholars return as SoLa Summer Interns speaks to the community the SoLa Scholarship program fosters among our students and the role SoLa plays in each student’s career development.

We all remember our first internship and how it shaped our professional journeys—offering hands-on experience, industry insights, and invaluable networking opportunities. I still remember my first internship at KTLA, Channel 5, where I got my start as a news intern. Just as that experience shaped my career and expanded my network, these aspiring students didn’t just spend the summer with us—they invested in their own growth and future success.

School is back in session! 🎒📝 📘

As a mother of two boys, I understand how hectic the back-to-school season can be, from juggling class schedules and gathering supplies to managing extracurricular activities. For families with limited resources, this time of year can be overwhelming, with added concerns around access, affordability, and transportation.

The SoLa Foundation’s annual backpack drive was created to help low-income families prepare for school. Our 3rd annual Backpack Drive hosted at the Beehive prepared over 1,000 students for success, triple the number of students we were able to serve our first year.

But, this incredible event is about so much more than just backpacks filled with essential school supplies—it’s about reinvigorating students' and their family's love for learning.

And, as always, SoLa brought the fun! Students got fresh new hairstyles and braids from Mirror Mirror Beauty Center, enjoyed a reptile zoo experience courtesy of My WildLife People, and picked up swag from the Undefeated Inc. Foundation. With food trucks and a special performance by the legendary inventor of krumping, Tommy The Clown, this was a day to remember!

Thank you to our dedicated resident relations team, partners, and volunteers for making this the best and biggest Back-to-School Backpack Drive yet! Together, we’re ensuring students start the school year feeling confident and inspired. Now that students are back in school, I’m also excited to share the launch of our Fall 2024 after-school programming. Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gpqdHNew
