Highlights
This diploma from Columbia University was once a great source of pride for me; in the past few weeks, that sense of pride has been displaced by feelings of disgust and shame. I am shocked to witness the hate speech, support for violence, unchecked ignorance, and unfettered antisemitism spread across the campus.
Hatred of and violence towards Jews, and Israelis is expressed freely and openly, while the university has failed to condemn it, or take any action against the perpetrators of the violent atmosphere that has gripped the campus of my alma mater.
I demand that the University:
- condemn students and professors with showing their support for Hamas terrorism.
- Issue a statement that rejects the letter from professors supporting hatred and terrorism and rebukes its signatories.
- Permanently suspend the student groups showing support for hatred and terrorism.
- Fire Joseph Massad for penning a gleeful article, praising the massacre in Israel and spreading antisemitism on a site that endorses terrorism.
Until these demands are met – until the University once again shows enlightened leadership in true service of its core values beyond the freedom of speech – my diploma, like my university’s moral compass, will read in the wrong direction. #EndCampusJewHate
