The best engineers don’t just take on every task—they ruthlessly prioritize what matters most.

As you level up as an engineer, you face an insurmountable set of tasks. How you prioritize becomes crucial to your success.

Here's a three-step guide to prioritization that I use daily:

1/ Choose tasks wisely. Be selective with your time—every task has a cost.

2/ Prioritize by impact. Focus on what delivers the most business value.

3/ Drop tasks early. Know when to let go to prevent bottlenecks.

If this resonates, I've broken each step down in my article: https://lnkd.in/gsNu_BdA

When tackling a problem, start with the big picture by asking these questions.

  1. What is the problem?
  2. So what if I solve this problem?
  3. Who are my stakeholders?

By asking these questions, you will:

  1. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆: Why does this matter to the company? How urgent is it?
  2. 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. Who are they? How do they like to be updated?
  3. 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲. What could go wrong? How can we prepare for it?
