Simo Pietilainen, with 35 years of extensive legal experience, has held various key positions in the legal field both in Finland and internationally.

His roles have included acting as a police chief, prosecutor, trade union lawyer, and owning a law office in Finland. He also has significant international experience, including working in Estonia during its transition period from 1992-1996, with the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Russia, at EUPOL Afghanistan, at the Privatization Agency of Kosovo, and at EULEX Kosovo.

Pietilainen has a strong focus on areas such as the rule of law, human rights, Russian legislation, insolvency, labor law, and court administration.

He pursued his Master's Degree in Legal Studies at the University of Helsinki and has been involved in various organizations like EULEX Kosovo as a Judicial Clerk, the Privatization Agency of Kosovo as Chairman of the Review Committee, and EUPOL Afghanistan as a mentor to the Minister of Justice. Additionally, he served as a Liaison magistrate officer/consul at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
