Highlights
Just in case you missed it on the new website, I have recently published a book called Innovation Sucks - Time to Think Differently https://amzn.to/3fWuoZi. Written to reflect the current state of innovation and suggesting that given the potential opportunities being created by the uncertainty we are living with, this may be an ideal time to think about how we innovate, how we use resources, money and time to better effect.
Along with my co-author Alan Watkins CEO of Complete, we have set out to challenge some of the ingrained truths about innovation and suggest a different approach. In this approach innovation is not the creation of a novel idea. It is the successful commercialisation of that novel idea. Rather than starting with costly, time-consuming problem assessment that seeks to push potential solutions through an innovation funnel and eventually launch a product or service into a market, an ‘impeller approach’ starts with a solution and gets the market to pull (suck) it forward so it can fail or flourish fast.

Now for something completely different (or maybe a little mad)…
Jim, a Fool to start-ups, Joker in Residence in organisations and Tenth Man at Newcastle University will attempt to weave the lyrics of a 1960s jazz protest song deftly through an exposition of both conventional and controversial approaches to the translation of science and research. Join him at 12pm this Thursday 13th May via Zoom - only preparation requested is to have the lyrics of this song going through an otherwise open mind! The song is at https://lnkd.in/erjF3cM To register for this open event, please sign up here:
