Building leading brands in F&B that people love

Solomon Choi was a prominent entrepreneur known for founding 16 Handles, a self-serve frozen yogurt chain that began in New York City in 2008. Under his leadership, the brand expanded significantly, reaching over 40 locations and becoming an innovative player in the food and beverage industry. Choi's approach emphasized risk-taking and fostering an environment where creativity could thrive, which he believed was essential for innovation and business success.13

Choi served as the CEO of 16 Handles until August 2022, when he sold the company to Neil Hershman and YouTube personality Danny Duncan. Following the sale, he continued to influence the industry as an advisor at 16 Handles and engaged in other ventures, including being the CEO of Jabba Brands, which focuses on improving lifestyles through food and drink.23 His expertise extended beyond entrepreneurship; he was also involved in mentoring and providing guidance to aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs.1

Choi's educational background includes a degree from the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business, and he was known for his commitment to customer service and hospitality principles throughout his career.3 Tragically, Solomon Choi passed away on June 11, 2024, at the age of 44, leaving behind a legacy as a passionate leader in the food industry.45

This year's Restaurant Leadership Conference was a powerful reminder of the importance of community in the restaurant industry. From leaders to suppliers, it takes a collective effort to serve our guests and markets. Despite the margin challenges faced by many businesses, it was inspiring to learn from successful restaurant leaders and their strategies for navigating these obstacles.

As someone who hasn't attended the conference in several years, I'm grateful for the opportunity to have participated and will be sure to include it in my annual calendar moving forward. A big thank you to Informa and JW Marriott for hosting such an insightful event.
