I enjoyed presenting to students from Heidelberg Germany's BEAM (Business, Entrepreneurship, & Math) exchange program about creating impact by growing businesses in developing economies. Engaging conversation! The program works with Los Altos High School's BEAM club. I was thrilled that my daughter Kaya Rammohan (part of the Los Altos club and her classmate Sadie Gracon) could also join. They're excited to visit Germany soon. In 2020, Stanford Seed collaborated with Professor Tim Weiss of Imperial College London to interview 80 Seed network entrepreneurs about their Covid response. Some were focused on survival, some on new opportunities. But to navigate the new normal, most - 83% - took advantage of Seed's ongoing offerings like faculty webinars, network chapter events and more. This seemed to underscore something important: After entrepreneurs in emerging markets complete training programs, they often seek continued support.
We decided to write an article, just published in Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR), on how entrepreneur support organizations can act as pacers in the marathon of growing a business. We offer a blueprint for adopting a pacer model, based on Seed's model and those of Endeavor, Unreasonable Group, AMI, Harambe, Y Combinator and Entrepreneurs' Organization.
