Sophie Laurie is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in research, innovation, and international collaboration.

Currently serving as the Associate Director of Interdisciplinary Programmes and Capability at UKRI (NERC), she leads initiatives focused on addressing environmental challenges and supporting the levelling-up agenda.

In her previous role as the Associate Director for Innovation and Partnerships at the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Sophie excelled in managing relationships with public and private sector partners to drive impactful research outcomes.

With a strong foundation as a research scientist, Sophie has a PhD in Plant Physiology from UCL and has contributed significantly to the field, publishing over 40 scientific papers on plant stress responses.

Her expertise spans partnership development, governance, strategic planning, and multinational collaborative research and innovation programme development and management.

Sophie's educational background includes a BSc in Botany from Bedford College University of London, showcasing her dedication to botanical sciences.

Throughout her career, Sophie has held various key positions in prestigious organizations such as NERC, Research Councils UK, University of York, and BBSRC, where she played pivotal roles in shaping international policies and research agendas.
