Highlights
It all started with applying for STPI - Software Technology Parks of India CHUNAUTI 5.0 on 31st of May, 2023. It was a normal day of hustle, coding for Hornet and trying to assemble a team. But looking back, it was the best decision which led to the hardest struggle I've endured in my professional career to date. After a struggle of 9 months and 11 days, we finally won the competition and received 25 lacs in pre-seed at an 8 Crore valuation from STPI in association with Pontaq. I'm indebted to them for trusting us. Special thanks to Radhav Tandon and Maneesh Kumar for guiding me throughout the journey and advising me at every step. I used to read building a startup is extremely tough, but now I experienced it first-hand. It is indeed arduous and takes a lot of patience, perseverance and a wont-give-up attitude. Quitting a well-paying job that offers a good work-life balance, to working without any source of income for almost a year and constantly burning the savings takes a toll on the mind. I'm lucky to have ever supportive parents, Vaswati Haldar, Gouri Acharjee and my co-founder Subhro Jyoti Mondal I was able to take up the pain, but to be very honest, I would not recommend anyone to build a startup unless there is very clear and compelling reason to do so. But, on the contrary, being focused on one thing for a prolonged period, is meditation and pure bliss. It is a tough fight, but I believe true happiness is found in such states of flow and hard work, not in sipping cocktails at beaches, although the latter becomes more enjoyable if you've endured the former. Since this is my first time founding a startup and first time raising a fund, I have had some learnings along the way that I would like to share.
- Getting a good CA/CS who has prior experience in the startup world, for hand along the way while raising funds is very crucial. We were associated with someone who had no experience, and it slowed us down. Don't make this mistake!
- Talk to seniors or existing entrepreneurs, their guidance can reduce lots of hassle and can course correct if in the wrong direction. In that aspect, I would like to thank Abhik Khanra, Ayon H., Amit Sah and Rohit G. for their words of wisdom and constant support.
- Have a strong, reliable and supportive partner for business. There will be many surprises and setbacks, and most of the people claiming to be your allies will leave.
- Read good books, like Venture Deals, Zero to One, etc. Finally, I would like to thank The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the mentors Kalyan Kar, Arpan Pal, Deepak Daftari, Debashis Roy and Tanmoy Banerjee. Each minute that I've spent talking to them can be drafted into an MBA book, pure gold. The list would be incomplete without thanking Sambit Dasgupta, Rajat Dutta and Sagnik Dasgupta for the excellent work they are doing at Webel-BCC&I Tech Incubation Centre, Kudos! Lastly thanks to the vision of our leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar to propel India forward.
