Spela Juntunen is a Social Anthropologist with a PhD, possessing strong interpersonal, intercultural, and fieldwork skills, coupled with diverse professional experience in academic research and international development cooperation.

She is enthusiastic about humanitarian aid work and has extensive longitudinal and multi-sited fieldwork experience, especially in crisis-affected social settings in the Balkans, the Maghreb, and West Africa.

Proficient in English, French, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, and Slovenian, Spela has been involved in research, project/programme management, and data collection & surveys since 2003 covering various topics such as migration, discrimination, advocacy, natural resources management, gender equality, social inclusion, and more.

Her competences span academic research, international development, partnership with governmental and non-governmental entities, quantitative and qualitative research methods, project design and implementation, advocacy, media engagement, and much more.

Having lived and worked in various countries, including Morocco, Mauritania, Kenya, UK, France, Russia, and Finland, Spela brings a wealth of experience to the table. Her educational background includes a PhD in Social Anthropology, a Master's degree in Gender Studies and Social Anthropology, and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology of Culture & Russian Language and Literature.

Throughout her career, she has held roles in renowned organizations such as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, GVC Italia, International Water Management Institute, International Food Policy Research Institute, and many others involved in anthropological research, project leadership, consultancy, and journalism.
