Perception vs. Reality 🚀 Russ Dieringer released a fantastic grid this week on "How to Gain a Competitive Edge on Amazon." ." 🛒 Great framework and stellar survey kudos to the team at Stratably! 👏
It highlights a major variance in CPG eCommerce:
--> PERCEPTION: Executives BELIEVE their brands have optimized detail pages. The grid shows this right on top....everyone thinks they have a pretty baby... 🍼👶
...but...
--> REALITY: Our measurements found only 11% of detail pages from brands selling $100M+ received an "A Grade" (capturing 90%+ customer search volume). Even worse, those pages were updated only every 2.6 years! 👵🕰️ 👴 Stagnant, lacking content, and not taking advantage of new catalog fields or changing customer search terms. Yep... a very ugly baby with bad hair and green teeth. 🤢🦷
...so...
--> THE "REALLY REALLY": Content optimization works... More traffic = more sales... We see 18% traffic lift on avarege. And it’s cheap to do (we charge ~$200/ASIN).
Small brands update pages every 3.7 MONTHS, with 29% receiving an A grade. Chinese brands update pages every 26 days. Both are staying closer to the customer, using terms customers care about, and updating content more frequently. Yes, still a long way to go with 29% at an A grade, but well over 2X better vs. their big brand counterparts. 💪📈
**** Key Learnings **** --> SERVICE NEEDED: We don't do our own plumbing, electrical, or HVAC work—why fumble around with page content that's ineffective and outdated? 🛠️ ................. --> SOFTWARE NEEDED: It's impossible to stay up-to-date with a computer unless you use a computer to talk to a computer. Use good software. Stay up-to-date with the fields Amazon uses. 💻🤖 ................. --> DEMOCRATIZED RETAIL: Small players are willing to put in the time, and that's why they're gaining digital square footage. Level the playing field with the right (and up-to-date) content. 🏷️🛒
Let's optimize, update, and outshine the competition! 🌟🚀
