Stefanie Tellex

Associate Professor of Computer Science at Brown University

Stefanie Tellex is a renowned researcher focusing on constructing robots that can seamlessly communicate with humans using natural language. Her vision includes every household having a personal robot capable of diverse tasks like setting the table, doing laundry, and cooking dinner.

Tellex completed her Ph.D. at the MIT Media Lab in 2010, where she specialized in developing models for spatial prepositions and motion verbs. Her postdoctoral work at MIT CSAIL concentrated on creating robots proficient in understanding natural language.

She has a strong publication record at prestigious conferences like SIGIR, HRI, RSS, AAAI, IROS, and ICMI, earning accolades such as Best Student Paper at SIGIR and ICMI. Tellex was recognized as one of IEEE Spectrum's AI's 10 to Watch and received the Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Award at Brown University.

With a background in Media Arts and Science, Tellex has held various academic positions, including Associate Professor, Joukowsky Family Assistant Professor Of Computer Science, and Assistant Professor at Brown University. She has also served as a Senior Advisor for Perception at Realtime Robotics, Inc., in addition to her roles at MIT.

Tellex's expertise lies in natural language communication for robots, advancing towards more intelligent, autonomous machines to enhance human-robot interaction and task delegation.
