20 years full of lessons OR how to find your tribe.
July 2004, a young but ever ambitious me walked through the doors of Esplanaden, the Maersk Copenhagen HQ. Eager to travel, meet people, to figure out what I was made of and to broaden every single horizon. I put on my beautiful black suit as simultaneously a coat of armor and the most efficient way to get out of the door in the morning and posthaste went to work.
On day 1, I met Michael Hansen my first manager at Maersk who would completely reshape my way of thinking. Michael taught me what it looks like to truly care about your people and how to show deep patience and trust in your team.
Cindy Andersen and I became fast friends, a shared love for figuring out really hard things, travel and I think in hindsight a longing to be understood. For 20 years, this has been my lifeline and the first call I make when things don't make sense 🏩
Cecilie Enevoldsen was suggested by MANY mutual friends (to whom I will be forever grateful) as someone I should have lunch with. That initial conversation over lunch has now continued on its 7000nd day or so, and I am not sure how I would do life without her. She teaches me unconditional friendship 💓
In my first year, the most handsome, wise and fascinating person Reid Simon walked into my life, with him I built a family, a dream, a life. With his unwavering support, I get to work on my dreams every day. He teaches me how to navigate the world and to stay curious always.
My kids, who are not yet on LinkedIn but may read this post sometime in the future teach me humbleness, that "why?" is a complete sentence and that my heart has infinite capacity for love and joy.
John Klompers taught me to believe in myself, to recognize the spark and to take a leap of faith when you see the right attitude and aptitude in others and how to be the greatest mentor out there
Lucia Pinheiro showed me what great leadership looks like, to aim for the stars 🌃 how to stay true to oneself (awkward, quirky and all) and how to be kinder to myself
Meredith Bradford the art of debate, how to truly resolve conflict with real conversation and to be relentless in the pursuit of excellence
Henriette Hallberg Thygesen made it clear what I could be and that I did not have to give up being me to be that
Saskia Groen-in't-Woud taught me to claim my seat fully and how to drive deep transformation with grace and care
Casey Adams taught me resiliency, to trust my intuition and also to write out furiously those thoughts that don't need to leave my head
Mary Eck helps me see and understand dynamics that are not always clear
Katherine Mosquera gave me a masterclass in the art of constructive feedback and the value of a Q10 IYKYK
Many others shaped these last 20 years and to you all, I am grateful 💙. I would not be this version of me without this tribe, these experiences and these lessons 🌟
I’d love to hear about your greatest lessons and who in your tribe taught you them!
