I think we all know that if we are going to productively respond to phenomena as complex as AI and global pandemics, we are going to need lots of informed opinions on the table, the capacity to absorb competing views, and the character to manage conflict.
You may not know that we have senior political leaders from both parties that do the (often pretty thankless!) work of publicly trying to maintain our norms of political debate and disagreement.
My home state Governor Jared Polis is one such leader. Gov Spencer Cox of Utah is another, and has made depolarization the focus of his leadership as chair of the National Governors Association this year.
