As I endevour to rework my systems to create a "calm" coaching business with marketing systems that don't have me chasing all the time, I'm thinking the job search itself doesn't have to be as stressfull as we make it either.

In fact it could even be PEACEful.

P-repared: Be ready for interviews and networking opportunities. E-ngaged: Stay actively involved in your job search. A-ligned: Ensure your efforts align with your career goals. C-omposed: Maintain calm and composure during the process. E-mpowered: Feel empowered to take charge of your job search.

I feel bad. 😔

I feel bad for people who have trusted their job search to providers who don't seem to know how to position them to win.

Service providers with a significant following here on LinkedIn. Service providers job seekers should be able to trust.

Over the past few weeks I have had a handful of people approach me with materials they paid good money for that were not getting them the results they were after. After a quick glance it was clear why.

Their documents:

✅ Ignored ageism ✅ Were stuffed with graphical elements ✅ Were not written with "skimability" in mind ✅ Didn't follow basic resume writing best practices

I'm posting this as a reminder to would-be purchasers of job seeking services. Just because someone has a large platform doesn't mean they are the best option.

Here's a tip to make sure you're getting someone who knows what they are doing.

  1. Ask for a sample.
  2. Download it on your phone.
  3. Set a timer for 10 seconds and scan it.

If it's hard to read or follow, or you don't get the gist of what the resume is all about- it's a hard pass.

Caveat emptor my friend, caveat emptor.
