I have always viewed myself as a “good” dad but not a “great” dad. I care a lot about my wife and kids but it is very easy to focus on developing in my career as opposed to developing as a parent/spouse.
I listen to podcasts a lot that involve becoming a better businessman/leader in the work space. It was just recently that I realized I rarely, if ever, listen to podcasts or read things that would make me a better father/husband. I then started thinking about how everything I do in the father/husband world is all done upon my “natural talent” if you will. I’ve never truly tried to get better.
It’s easy to say “I’m working hard for my family.” I say it often but it means a lot more when your mindset turns to “I’m working hard on myself to be better for my family.” I don’t know who needs to hear this or if this will even be taken with any weight as it is a random thought. However, I believe we can all be better spouses and parents in our families if we took the time to actually become better. I have relied completely on what is natural instead of realizing what I can do better. #familyiseverything
