Steve Zabel

Owner at Competitive Action Sports LLC

Steve Zabel is the Owner/Inventor at Competitive Action Sports LLC, a company he founded in April 2004.3 He is a former professional football player and coach who invented a training device called "The Tug" or "TUGGER".12

Zabel had a successful football career, playing as a tight end for the University of Oklahoma where he was an All-American. He was drafted sixth overall in the 1970 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and played in the NFL for 10 years, also spending time with the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.12

After his playing career, Zabel pursued various business ventures for 20 years before returning to football as a coach. He served as the offensive coordinator for Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, where his team achieved an impressive 36-4 record and won two consecutive NEFC Championships.1

It was during his time at Curry College that Zabel developed the concept for The Tug, initially using old tires in a tug-of-war drill. This led him to create a safer, more versatile training tool that is now used by numerous NCAA Division I football programs and professional sports teams.12

The Tug is designed to provide a competitive, strength-building workout while minimizing the risk of injury. It can be filled with water to adjust its weight and uses inertia to create a unique training experience.2
