Tech entrepreneur and software engineer

Steve Krouse is the founder of Val.town, a social website designed for coding in the cloud. Launched in September 2022, Val.town allows users to write and run JavaScript or TypeScript code, facilitating the creation of APIs and other programming tasks without the usual complexities associated with traditional coding environments. The platform aims to enhance computational literacy and empower users to shape their software to improve their lives and communities.13

Before founding Val.town, he held various positions, including co-founder of Zaplib and The Coding Space, and worked as a software engineer at Looker and First Round Capital. His work often focuses on making programming more accessible and engaging, particularly for younger audiences.24

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Krouse is involved in educational initiatives, aiming to create interactive coding courses and foster a community around programming.13 He resides in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, and is actively engaged in discussions about the future of coding and developer tools through various podcasts and interviews.25

can full robot + ai abundance be utopia?

Imagine robots taking your order at every restaurant, driving you everywhere, building every product you use

Quality goes up while cost falls through the floor. Every product and service becomes mostly too cheap to meter like tap water or electricity at a cafe

There's little opportunity for humans to make money, but maybe that's not a problem because everything is so cheap?

The remaining expensive goods are "rivalrous", such as a particular house on a coveted block. NIMBY becomes the last blocker of everyone's access to abundance

But in a world where we have robots who can quickly and cheaply build luxury homes for everyone who wants one, we don't need to make existing cities YIMBY. We can stamp out new cities in record time, with a place for everyone
