I just got off the phone with a recruiting agency that is growing their book of new business in the most unique way.

I was smiling ear to ear when he broke down his strategy for me.

This agency owner went OLD SCHOOL and hired a commission only field sales team to canvas high potential areas and knock on doors.

And let me tell you, their business development is humming.

I loved this because my first job out of college was field sales and nothing teaches you how to handle rejection like being told NO at a Chinese food restaurant in the Bronx (and similar experiences, 80 times a day).

Why does it work?

Because their sales people show up. They meet potential prospects face to face which is rarer then ever. And because so few are doing it.

We are currently doing some work to ramp up their technology and outreach systems to improve their sourcing because of the new business they're finding.

How cool is that?

We are in a new era of scaling staffing and recruiting firms. You have to understand how it's changed in order to ride the next wave of strategies...

Pre-2015 - things were pretty standard. You sent individual emails.

You went to networking events.

You sat at your desk and perhaps cold called. Thats all there was.

Many of these personalized individual tasks still can drum up business but its highly inefficient and the world is just noisier than it has been.

2015-2022 - The digital world starts to explode.

Automation tools begin to come out. With these tools you can now send a 5-7 email cadence at scale.

Then, in 2019 Linkedin automation explodes on the stage.

Whoever used them first saw immediate success.

Progressively you had to get more and more creative until it stopped working for the most part.

2022-Now - The email tools of the past dont work.

Deliverability is harder than ever.

Linkedin has cracked down on automation allowing only 200 connects a week vs. the previous 800+.

But is outbound outreach dead?

IMO, it's having a renaissance like never before, but not for everyone.

To send emails at scale and have them land in people's inboxes now requires a sophisticated technical architecture that is beyond the reach of most staffing and recruiting firms that are just dabbling with tools.

Even if you can figure out how to send them, the same old emails work less. Enter Generative AI + data scraping tools + no-code automation tools.

With this new tech stack you can:

  • Instantly find hiring managers contact info of stale job postings

  • Build custom signals that tell you when a company needs help hiring even before they post a job posting

  • Get notified when people in your network land at companies you want an intro into

These are just a few of the use cases that are not out of the box of any software but we've been able to build for clients.

There are hundreds of other plays being experimented on by innovative agencies who want to find the next edge.

I've been part of all the previous waves of strategies and I can feel that this is the next wave.

Similarly to the automation strategies of 2015, those that implement these now will grow their business quickly while everyone plays catch up.

Exciting times indeed !
