I often find myself reading multiple books at once, and it’s fascinating how the ones I recently picked up are all intertwined by a common theme -resilience.
“Experience is not what happens to you; it’s what you do with what happens to you.” - Aldous Huxley. This quote has been resonating with me as I dive into these books. Each one offers a unique perspective on navigating life’s challenges and turning them into opportunities for growth.
Kyongsook Kim's recent book is a powerful testament to overcoming adversity. Her story of navigating tough times reminds us that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about growing through the experience.
Reflecting on the past year, I find myself deeply connected to the lessons in these books. They’re helping me rethink how I approach life’s challenges and how to better show up in the world.
I’m also witnessing incredible resilience in the startup environment—from founders to VCs and the entire ecosystem—proving that perseverance is at the heart of innovation.
Here’s to embracing resilience and continually striving to improve!

Evolving Marketing: The Role of AI The marketing industry is no exception; AI influences and changes it. I spent several decades in the marketing and communications industry. I was curious about how AI evolved the marketing industry, changed the roles of marketers, strengthened personal capacity, and created more opportunities. Thus, I recently earned a marketing AI certificate from the Marketing AI Institute. I shared the knowledge I gained from the programs and some insights from my experience and learning with my AI study group.
Here are some highlights: ** According to the Marketing AI Institute survey, the top three reasons marketers use AI tools are below. 1. Reduce time spent on repetitive data-based tasks 2. Create more value from marketing AI technology 3. Create a more significant ROI from the marketing campaign.
** Many AI tools exist for various marketing programs, including AD, PR, Social Media, Content Marketing, E-Commerce, email marketing, etc. New tools are created every day, and those technologies continue to evolve. I am interested in and use more content marketing AI tools.
** Given limited resources and budgets in a startup business environment, AI marketing tools can effectively achieve marketing goals. When we use ChatGPT or Perplexity for research projects or to generate content and images, using effective Prompts can be half the battle. I suggested that prompts should be like writing a “novel,” which includes role, target, background, desired tone and style, examples, keywords, limit, and desired results.
** Andrew Ng presented at a recent TSMC event. One of his messages struck me. He talked about “Task analysis of jobs to identify AI opportunities.” He argued that jobs comprise many tasks; AI automates tasks, not jobs. So, we need to break the jobs done by employees into tasks. We should analyze individual tasks to determine AI automation/augmentation potential. I thought it was a very compelling message about our future jobs.
** Today, AI simulates human-level language, predicts human responses, and generates realistic content. However, because AI cannot intervene in human thought processes or processes, it must actively utilize our profound emotional abilities. AI tools should be used to make brands more humane. AI can help improve human skills, but ultimately, humans must be responsible for all decisions and actions. AI should be assistive, not autonomous.
