Dr. Suely Black is an accomplished academic with a diverse educational background and a wealth of experience in the field of Chemistry and Materials Science.

She holds a Ph.D. and M.Ph. in Computational Chemistry from Columbia University in the City of New York, a solid foundation that complements her Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.

Dr. Black has held various key roles at Norfolk State University, including serving as the Chemistry Department Chair and the Graduate Program Coordinator. She has also been the Faculty Senate Secretary, Faculty Senate President, and Faculty Representative to the Board of Visitors at the university.

With a strong research background, Dr. Black has been a Principal Investigator at IGERT in Magnetic and Nanostructured Materials and an Associate Director of Education at the Science and Technology Center on Materials and Devices for Information Technology Research.

Her teaching experience includes positions as a Professor of Chemistry, Materials Science, and Engineering at Norfolk State University, as well as an Assistant Professor at Federal Fluminense University.
