Highlights
Sharing a thesis I've been working on for the past few months on what I call "Commercial Infrastructure for AI," which is a stack of infra that enables AI products (agents, vertical apps, companions) to deliver their job to be done vs. just made possible:
When Paul Klein IV called me earlier this year saying he wanted to start a new company building better headless browsers, we immediately started dreaming of just how critical browser infrastructure will be in enabling AI products to deliver their job to be done - whether they be LLM-native agents that need to do work in the browser or workflow products that embed AI features. This ultimately led to the formation of Browserbase which is building browser infrastructure for the programmable web.
Other critical pieces of the stack include authorization, for which Daniel M. and I have strategized on for Anon, prompt enrichment, memory, and humanization.
This idea of "Commercial Infrastructure" as a separate stack of infra has been repeated in history. For example, Plaid enabled mobile fintech companies to actually deliver their job to be done in a 10x way in 2013 and the Commercial Internet Exchange enabled non-DARPA civilians to access the internet, thereby allowing the Mosaic browser to actually deliver its job to be done of creating an interface for the internet.
I believe this stack of infra will capture a ton of value in this phase of AI as these tools will be needed by both the mega-funded companies + a new long-tail of companies that are emerging on the back of a thriving open-source ecosystem.
Thank you to Paul Klein, Daniel Mason, Prabhdeep (PD) Singh, and Marc Andreessen for letting me bounce ideas off of them for this thesis, which you can read more about here: https://lnkd.in/er_wXumb
If you're building in Commercial Infrastructure for AI or for other new product categories that are emerging I'd love to chat, strategize, and worldbuild alongside you 🌐
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Founding Investor at Browserbase!
